Puncture-resistant fabric – Maximum levels of impact and puncture resistance
Puncture-resistant fabric, which offers effective protection against the external effects of sharp objects, is made from yarn that is composed of a range of fibre materials. Tensile strength and elasticity are combined to produce material qualities that make the textile almost impenetrable.
Puncture-resistant fabric differs from cut-resistant fabrics primarily due to the area of the puncture impact. During a cut, the force is applied across a wide region of the textile, whereas puncture-resistant fabrics must resist the force from a needle, knife point or other sharp object over an exceptionally small area. Accordingly, a safe and reliable cut-resistant fabric must be so resilient that it cannot be penetrated.
